James (Jesse) Cleveland- Owens
Jesse Owens was an Olympic runner for America; he was originally born in Alabama and moved to Cleveland when his sister was sold by their slave owner. Jesse won four of the five Olympic gold medals in the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, Germany. Owens specialized in sprinting and long jumps and was considered the most successful athlete in the entire 1936 Olympics.
The Harlem Globe Trotters
The Harlem Globe Trotters are an exhibition basketball team that combine theatre, comedy, and basketball. They were founded in Chicago by Abd Sepstain; the Globetrotters gradually worked comic routines into their act until they became known more for entertainment than sports. The Globetrotters' acts often feature incredible coordination and skillful handling of one or more basketballs, such as passing or juggling balls between players, balancing or spinning balls on their fingertips, and making unusual, difficult shots.
Joe Louis
Joe Louis was a heavy weight boxer of the Harlem Renaissance. Louis burst onto the professional boxing scene in 1934 with style and skill such as the boxing world has seen. Known to many as the "Brown Bomber," Louis emerged victorious from his first 27 fights, all but four of which he won in knockouts. Louis' technique and skill made him seem as if he were invincible
